LEADERSHIP IN THE 21ST CENTURY
Peter Drucker said that three things happen in an organization: friction, confusion, and under-performance. Everything else requires Leadership.
Executives have two jobs in an organization: 1) manage the company, and 2) and lead the organization. Management is an assignment. Leadership is a choice. My experience of working with leaders over the last 30 years tells me that leadership in the 21st century is as much about knowing your Self as knowing your “stuff”. There is the knowledge one gains from study and experience, and the knowledge one gains from reflection and self-examination.
I view leadership as more of an Art than a Science. It is the art of purpose and meaning. It’s orientation is to the future; a future that wasn’t going to happen but for your bringing it into existence as an idea or a vision. Leadership makes something possible that wouldn’t have happened in the normal course of events.
The power to lead may live simply in the ability to initiate a conversation that generates valuable action when you are not around. The Leadership conversation addresses alignment, raising and resolving issues, and rapid and valuable decision making.
I unleash leadership and creativity in my client’s companies in a way that benefits both the organization and the individual.
